This training program addresses meeting activity needs among persons with dementia, applying activity assessment methods, adjusting care routines to include enjoyable activities, and monitoring outcomes related to activity involvement. Each part includes a video presentation, printable handouts, and a work place exercise designed to enhance learning by putting the training into practice.

Program Outline:

Introduction

Part 1 : The CMS Activity Regulation - An Overview
We will review the federal regulation related to activity involvement in nursing homes, and why it is important.

Part 2: Activity in the Context of High Quality Dementia Care
We will discuss how dementia affects older adults, why ongoing engagement in meaningful activities is important, and how to collect baseline information that provides a basis for selecting person-appropriate activities.

Part 3: Activity Options and Alternatives
We will discuss the benefits of, and methods to implement meaningful activities for persons with dementia and the many activity options that are available.

Part 4: Teamwork - Getting Ideas into Practice
We will discuss how to work as a team to get meaningful activities in place and working for residents with dementia.
