Stronger together: How coalition leadership is transforming long-term care in Iowa

Long-term care in the United States is at a crossroads. Workforce shortages, economic uncertainty, rising resident acuity, regulatory pressure, and public mistrust have created a landscape where leaders struggle to keep pace with the demands placed upon them.

 

Nowhere is this more evident than in Iowa, where 149 of the state’s 389 nursing homes currently hold a 1- or 2-star rating. In many rural communities, these facilities are the only option available, leaving older adults and families with limited access to high-quality care....

UI Geriatric Training Program Aims to Bolster Workforce

A new federal award to the University of Iowa will continue a Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) to educate and train health care and supportive care workforces to care for older adults in collaboration with community partners across Iowa and several other states.
