Stronger together: How coalition leadership is transforming long-term care in Iowa

Long-term care in the United States is at a crossroads. Workforce shortages, economic uncertainty, rising resident acuity, regulatory pressure, and public mistrust have created a landscape where leaders struggle to keep pace with the demands placed upon them.
Nowhere is this more evident than in Iowa, where 149 of the state’s 389 nursing homes currently hold a 1- or 2-star rating. In many rural communities, these facilities are the only option available, leaving older adults and families with limited access to high-quality care.
Our Vision
To ensure every older adult in Iowa receives exceptional care and compassion, fostering a community where dignity, respect, and well-being are at the forefront. We aim to create an environment of continuous improvement in quality and service, where the voices of residents and their families are valued and integrated into our approach. Together, we strive for a future where every nursing home embodies the highest standards of care, promoting physical, emotional, and social well-being for all older Iowans and have the resources they need to provide that level of care.
